About the Job

Post-doctoral research employing colloidal quantum dot technology to develop low-cost CMOS compatible intersubband optoelectronics (photodetectors and light emitters) in the MWIR and LWIR

Description

For well-qualified, highly motivated, and dynamic young scientists who want to advance their scientific careers in a welcoming and exciting environment, ICFO– The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Spain, is offering up to two postdoctoral positions.

In order to address applications related to safety and security, remote sensing, environmental monitoring, thermal imaging, etc., the project focuses on the mid and long wave infrared using colloidal quantum dot films that are engineered at the atomic and supra-nanocrystalline level.

Under the direction of ICREA Prof. Gerasimos Konstantatos, the Functional Optoelectronic NanoMaterials group at ICFO is seeking exceptional, innovative, and highly motivated researchers to create CMOS compatible, infrared colloidal quantum dot photodetectors and light emitters that take advantage of intersubband transitions and are extremely efficient.

Qualification/Profile

  • An internationally recognized Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, physics, or material science
  • Demonstrated practical knowledge and proficiency in the design, development, and refinement of optoelectronic devices for light emission and photodetection based on intersubband transitions
  • Proficiency in the aforementioned infrared spectrum, particularly in the mid- and long-wave spectrum, would be advantageous.
  • The fellow should be skilled in setting up setups for the optical and electronic characterization of devices in this wavelength range and possess a solid understanding of the physics of intersubband transitions in quantum confined materials and devices.
  • It would be advantageous to have knowledge and experience with charge transport studies, low noise techniques, and/or optical instrumentation in the mid- and long wave infrared.
  • Although it is not necessary, direct demonstrated proficiency of the previously listed characteristics in the field of colloidal quantum dot optoelectronics will be positively evaluated.

How to Apply

Appropriate applicants are asked to send:

  • A cover letter or presentation letter that includes a statement of interest detailing prior research accomplishments and future research goals,
  • A curriculum vitae that includes your contact information and research publications,
  • Two possible referees’ email addresses; if required, they will be contacted for their reference letters.

For informal questions about the application, candidates can reach out to jobs@icfo.eu. For scientific questions, they can send an email to gerasimos.konstantatos@icfo.eu
