Post-Doctoral Fellow on Optimization of Mold Powder

Scientist using a microscope to analyze samples in a modern laboratory environment

About the Job

Project Post-Doctoral Fellow on Optimization of Mold Powder for continuous casting of JA69BMQT-05 grade slabs

Description

Mold fluxes, also referred to as casting powders, are used to stop the shell from adhering to the mold. Before plant trials, a steel manufacturer will receive recommendations on the best mold fluxes to use for continuous casting of a specific steel grade.Specifically, a new mold flux design criterion will be adopted that combines the analysis of thermophysical properties with crystallization experiments. In order to comprehend the interactions between the grade and the mold slag, calculations will also be performed.

Qualification

  • PhD in Metallurgical Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in high-temperature experiments, thermal analysis using DSC, and characterization tools like XRD and SEM-EDX
  • Basic knowledge of mold flux characteristics and their function in continuous steel casting
  • Exposure to CFD
