About the Job
Development of water-based electrode processing for Li-ion and Na-ion batteries.
The main goal is to advance the water-based electrode assembly and manufacturing techniques for lithium-ion batteries that the lab has been working on for the past few years.
Our partners typically supply the active ingredients and additives needed for the initial water-based electrode processing. Research on the compatibility of active ingredients and additives with water-based electrode formulation and processing is guided in part by electrode formulation and characterization. Typically, the challenges are (i) water reactivity and (ii) dispersibility in the formulation of the electrode.
Description
Manufacturing and thoroughly characterizing battery electrodes from raw or modified materials—either created in the lab or acquired from business or academic partners—for coin cells and pouch cells will be the primary responsibility of the employed researcher. The latter method still needs to be properly developed, and it might be combined with sensor integration to collect data. He or she will verify that the electrode materials are compatible with the water-based procedures that were previously created at the NCE lab. He or she will oversee PhD students and contribute to the advancement of the battery assembly platform (equipment setup).
Qualification
A PhD in engineering or science or a master’s degree in science with a solid background in electrochemistry, particularly in the production and characterization of Li-ion batteries.
