About the Job
Postdoc Position (Experimental) //Quantum transport in van der Waals heterostructures
A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available at the dynamic QWaals research group of Dr. Semonti Bhattacharyya at the Leiden Institute of Physics (LION), Leiden University, Netherlands.
Description
Van der Waals stacking is a novel method for creating a defect-free, smooth interface between two materials with vastly different properties. As a result, these types of assemblies are ideal for studying proximity effects and interactions between different quantum phases in the absence of significant disorder. However, understanding and harnessing such proximity effects and interactions is still in its early stages. The study focuses on the experimental detection and manipulation of new emergent quantum phases in hybrid heterostructures as a function of twist angle and pressure.Van der Waals stacking, nanofabrication, and magnetotransport measurements at low temperatures will all be used in the experiments.
Qualification/Profile
- PhD in experimental condensed matter or a related discipline.
- Strong background in at least one of the following: low-temperature electrical transport measurement, van der Waals heterostructure nanofabrication and characterization (Raman+AFM)
- Inspired to carry out autonomous experimental studies
- Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity and desire to collaborate with others
