The Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences and Bioengineering Sciences,  Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium), seeks a grant-funded postdoctoral researcher.

A full-time postdoctoral scholarship will be offered to you for a period of 12 months (with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 36 months, contingent upon a favorable assessment of your research activities), with an anticipated start date of 1/3/2025.

Description of Job

    • The creation of new ligands that target G protein-coupled receptors and other extracellular and intracellular target proteins, as well as the ensuing fragment-based drug discovery, will be the focus of your work.
    • Design and synthesis of peptide-based ligands, including solid phase chemistry, organic synthesis of unique amino acids, and any other necessary chemical changes.
    • You will take the lead in discussions that direct these ligands’ design and optimization.
    • In addition to conducting research, you will help supervise predoctoral and master’s level students.

    Qualification/Profile

    • A doctorate in Science /biological or medical sciences
    • Expertise in conducting experiments
    • Possessing solid-phase peptide synthesis experience is advantageous.
    • History of presentations at international conferences and publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
    • Proficiency in the English language is necessary.
    • Minimal knowledge of supervising students.
    • Dynamic, adaptable, and accuracy-focused work style.
    • Outstanding oral and written communication and presentation abilities.
    • You did not work or study in Belgium during the three years prior to the start date, and you spent at least 12 months of those years overseas. Short-term visits to Belgium, such as vacations, conference attendance, or a brief stay to get ready for your postdoctoral research stay, are permitted during these 12 months.
